Give Back

In developing countries, less than 10% of people who require a wheelchair don’t have access to one. In the Dominican Republic alone, over 60,000 children can’t access the wheelchairs they need. We need your support to bridge the gap and help people live their lives to the fullest.

Donate

How do we make it happen?

When you donate equipment it is stored in a MA warehouse and packaged and shipped to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic via our trusted international shipping company. The Walk With Gonzo team unpack, analyze for damage (service if needed) and personally deliver equipment and supplies to children and families.

The families we support come from community advocacy and word of mouth. Intakes are conducted and needs are assessed by our volunteer medical staff (we take their physical measurements as well as assess the living space to ensure wheelchair accessibility). The timeline from intake to delivery is approximately 3 months, depending on inventory

Other Suggested Donations

According to the World Health Organization the wheelchair is one of the most commonly used assistive devices for enhancing personal mobility, which is a precondition for enjoying human rights and living in dignity. Wheelchairs assist people with disabilities to become productive members of their communities.

While wheelchairs are the most needed donation, there are many other items that have proved to be beneficial for the families we serve such as diapers, sanitary supplies, and meal replacements.
