Walk With Gonzo Stories

Jisairy Ureña Gil

Jisairy is a 16-year-old girl from Maimon Bonao, Dominican Republic. She suffers from Microcephaly, a birth condition that affects her brain/nervous system and causes seizures and developmental milestones such as, learning, siting and standing.

Through your donations, we were able to gift Jisairy a specialized wheelchair and supplies to help improve her overall health.

“She is much more stable and comfortable in her new wheelchair. I can now keep a close eye on her as I do my house chores comfortably without the need to constantly walk back and forth to check on her in bed. Thank God now that she is seated, she no longer gets bed sores because the chair offers great presure relief..”.

“Noño” Leandro Antonio Pérez Jorge

Leandro is 10 years old from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He was born with “Myelomeningocele” also known as Spina Bifida, a birth condition in which a baby’s spinal cord fails to develop properly. This condition results in muscle paralysis that can produce contractures, joint dislocations, and spinal deformity.

Through your donations, we were able to gift Leandro a wheelchair and supplies.

“He uses his chair everyday-he uses it for everything! The chair helps him move back and forth to school independently. He can now play with his friends without feeling left out. Our quality of life has improved so much…”

—Leandro’s mother/caretaker, Yudi Jorge
